Your positions about these bills don’t seem logical. Are you a Republican trying to defend your party because it doesn’t actually care about you? Accepting that would be too devastating?
What language would be necessary, do you think, for bipartisan support of workplace abuse legislation? It doesn’t seem fair to blame the Democrats. Either Republican leadership values workers’ rights (which always costs businesses money), or it does not. Why haven’t Republicans proposed such a bill? Why haven’t Republican leaders negotiated a bill with Democrats that would satisfy both parties? I’ve watched legislative sessions on this topic. Democrats are the only ones even trying to support worker rights. Businesses don’t want the expense or effort involved in protecting employees. There is no mystery here. Even Chat-GPT seems like it is trying to tell you that, although it doesn’t understand the irrationality politics inspires in people who would be too ashamed to admit they were misled or betrayed. The Republicans are the problem. Democrats support workers rights - the GOP does not. Look at your own publicly available facts. You are clearly not the enemy, Mr. Jensen - so why are you defending them?
Thank you, Justine, for so thoroughly demonstrating what is wrong with the Workplace Bullying movement today. You couldn't have done better had you tried.
I write from a place of genuine advocacy and intellectual honesty, but because I don't drink the Kool-Aid as you do, I must be a Republican. As if.
Facts aren’t Kool-Aid. Kool-Aid is Kool-Aid. Facts enable us to make informed decisions. It is terrifying to the rest of us, that roughly half of America is prepared to divorce its decision-making from them. You don’t have to be one of them. And you could help rescue others. Democrats care about everyone - not just their own. Democrats care about fairness, and compassion, and families, and safeguarding the ability of Americans to survive in a country where wealth is increasingly consolidated into the possession of the few. Democrats care about the survival of the planet.
I think the other half has probably been told from childhood that Democrats are evil, and can’t be trusted. (By those with a divide & conquer mentality - which is truly evil.) And I think the other half feels frightened by their relative lack of education, and the sense that they are being left behind. It is saddening that fellow Americans would feel that way. It is frightening because we are the ones who are actually on their side. How can we help them understand that we are on their side. What do they need to feel safe with us?
Trump promises vengeance. We promise safety.
It’s achievable. But we can’t get there without the rest of you.
Everyone has the right to exist. We are the ones who actually believe that.
Why don’t Republicans support anti-bullying legislation? Why haven’t they proposed any? Why haven’t they cooperated to pass any?
You recognize the truth in what I am trying to tell you. I know you do. It’s ok to change your mind, Chris. I know it’s scary. But you will not fall to pieces (it just feels that way.) The ability to change one’s mind is an essential part of wisdom. The hoop you have to jump through is much larger than you think. Safety is on the other side. We need you, and people like you, to help us build a safer world. We can’t do it without you.
We have to try, regardless, but I think we need you. How do we reach you, if not by talking like this?

Somewhere, Joe McCarthy is laughing.
